University of Illinois Changes in mock jurors' decision preferences during deliberation are represented as a stochastic process. Four models varying in their assumptions concerning the nature of opinion changes were comparatively evaluated. The rate and direction of opinion change was found to be relatively constant throughout deliberation and appeared to be a simple linear function of the proportion of jurors favoring the verdict in the direction of change.
