University of Toronto The present study was designed to replicate Knox and Inkster's (1968) postdecision dissonance findings within the con text of a chance-determined risk situation. Visitors to the Canadian National Exhibition were interviewed just prior to or following contracting to play one of several chance games. The results lend strong support to Knox and Inkster's reasoning, and extend the generalizability of their findings to chance contexts.
