Social Psychology in Poland

Valerian J. Derlega

Old Dominion University

The status of social psychology in Poland is examined. The social and political context within which social psychology operates is described, with a summary of major research activities. Research in Poland covers a broad range of topics, including helping behavior, game theory, punishment, aggression, objective self-awareness, and scientific method. The intents of this paper are to increase professional contacts among social psychologists in Poland and in other countries and to com- pare social psychology in Poland to theoretical and social problems studied by social psychologists in North America.
