New York University A survey study was conducted to investigate the relationship between sex roles and achievement conflicts. Contrary to contemporary interpretations, femininity was not related to fear of success or self-deprecation and insecurity. Masculinity was negatively related to fear of success in men and women and to selfdeprecation and insecurity more strongly in women than in men. Implications for concepts of sex roles are discussed.
