DOI: 10.1177/014616728064004 An Interactionist Perspective on Social KnowingUniversity of Virginia An alternative view of the relationship between perceptual and inferential processes is proposed. It is argued that the distinction bet teen perceptual processes as low-level" and inference processes as "high-level" mental operations may be inaccurate. The proposition that these two systems may he independent, interacting, and equally, capable of providing high-level and low-level judgments is put forward and discussed in light of, findings on the perception of action.
