Cooperation and Competition as a Function of Type A Behavior

College students classified as Type A or Type B anticipated engaging in situations described as cooperative or competitive, in which they and another person would have the opportunity to win money. Results showed that Type As predicted that they would win more money overall and particularly when competing, which was the only condition where the subjects anticipated winning more than the other person. Choice of a partner of lesser, greater, or equal ability than the subject did not vary according to condition.
