Dissonance and the PillAn Interpersonal SimulationConnecticut College Recent reviews of the dissonance/self-perception controversy conclude by citing evidence of dissonance misattribution as incompatible with self-perception theory. This article subjects that conclusion to an empirical test using Bem's interpersonal simulation method. Results indicate that observers cannot reproduce the attitudes subjects reported in the original misattribution study by Zanna and Cooper. This evidence provides further support for a dissonance anal) sis of attitude-discrepant behavior.
