Research Impact of Men and Women Social Psychologists

Ray Over

La Trobe University

Citation counts were established for 44 men and 44 women who published their dissertation research in Journal of Personality and Social Psychology between 1967 and 1973. Over the six years following publication there was no overall difference in the impact of research reported by men and by women. These data suggest that the under representation of women in lists of the most cited psychologists may reflect the research output of women rather than the quality of research that they publish.
